Abstract:
Argumentative
discourse, as a goal oriented activity, would seek to induce in the
Respondent a decision-making process leading to the identifi cation of a
given proposition. The role played by certain discourse markers in this
process is one of increasing processing efficiency. How they achieve
this is by means of coded instructions (or constraints) levelled at
various stages of the decision-making process.
